Artwork on Education

Hilary Wallis during the exhibition at the Council on Foreign Relations in Washington, D.C.

"As an artist, I fully understand the power that visual messages can instill in the minds of those who are in the stages of learning. When one thinks of 2007 Global Campaign for Education theme of 'Education as a Human Right' many images spring to the forefront-- especially myself, as I have worked in developing countries where I've witnessed many children who are unable to attend school. So, when I was asked to select artworks from high schools around the country that illustrate our theme, I was thrilled about this opportunity.

What I did not imagine was seeing the highest levels of pure talent and skill in the paintings and drawings of these artistic students. Over 150 individual artworks were selected, and many of them were displayed throughout Action Week in various locations around D.C. including the Council on Foreign Relations, Center for American Progress, and the Russell Senate office building on Capitol Hill. I would personally like to thank the following schools, groups and individuals for not only taking the time to develop such beautiful pieces, but also for sharing with all of us the importance of using art as a meaningful educational tool that truly was the highlight to Action Week 2007."
