Contact the Media

Reaching out to the local media in your area is a great way to spread the word about the importance of universal education. Here are some ideas for different types of media you can reach out to:

Local or School Newspaper

Submit a letter to the editor of your local newspaper about the importance of universal education or, if you’re a student, ask the editor if you could write a guest column. It’s always easier if you time the article with an event such as Global Education Action Week, the “back to school” time of year, or an event you are organizing in your community. We’ve already prepared a draft letter to the editor for you to work from.

Be sure to email us a copy»

Radio Station

Contact your local radio station to see if they will air public service announcements about universal education. Draft some using the fact sheets in the “Learn More” section and be sure to have actions that the listeners can take!

Be sure to email us if you get on the air>>

Local TV Station

If you’re holding an event, invite your local television station to help spread the word to others in your community. Contact the station at least two weeks in advance and be persistent until you receive a confirmation that the reporter will or will not show up at your event. Be sure to have your facts in order about the importance of universal education before they show up by reading through the “Learn More" section.

Blogs and Online Social Networks

Digital media is also a great place to spread the word. Post a link to the GCE-USA website on your blog and join our groups on MySpace» and Facebook»! The more people that join our movement, the more children will have an opportunity to attend school.
