Celebrating International Women’s Day with CARE
This week, CARE — a GCE-US coalition member — gathered more than 1,000 activists in Washington, DC for their annual conference. The conference coincided with the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day on Tuesday, March 8. Recognizing the importance of education in empowering women and girls around the world, CARE included the Education for All Act as one of the legislative priorities of the conference.
On Wednesday, GCE-US Director Joanna Kuebler spoke to hundreds of CARE activists about the importance of educating women and girls. “More than half of the out-of-school children worldwide are girls,” said Kuebler. “Education is the path out of poverty for millions of girls. Investing in education means a stronger global economy and a more secure world.”
The empowered education advocates went to Capitol Hill with a clear message for their congressional representatives: The U.S. can take an important step toward empowering women and girls and making global education a development priority by introducing and passing the Education for All Act.
