Dear Friends,

Worldwide, more than 72 million children are not in school. This means the world could be deprived of the next Albert Einstein, Mahatma Gandhi, or Nelson Mandela, not to mention the millions of doctors, entrepreneurs, teachers, police officers, and other professionals we so desperately need.

The good news is you can help achieve Education for All.

Global Week of Action
Every April, millions of people around the world join together in a Global Week of Action. They focus on a Lesson for All to promote the urgent need for universal education.
The 2010 Global Week of Action will take place from April 19-25. This year’s Lesson for All will be “Financing Quality Public Education.” Download your 2010 Global Action Week Toolkit now.

One of the most important things you can advocate for this year is the creation of the Global Fund for Education. The Global Fund for Education will ensure that the education deficit is addressed with the resources and political will necessary to ensure Education for All. In 2008, Presidential Candidate Barack Obama pledged to give every child the opportunity to learn through the creation of a Global Fund for Education. It is now time to ensure that President Obama lives up to this promise.

1GOAL Launch in the United States

One of the highlights of this year’s Global Action Week will be the U.S. launch of 1GOAL.
In 2010, for the first time ever, the FIFA World Cup will take place in Africa. With all the world’s eyes on Africa, the Global Campaign for Education will embark on an historic campaign to raise unprecedented public awareness and inspire action to achieve Education for All.

1GOAL is a campaign seizing the power of soccer to ensure that Education for All is a lasting impact of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Through 1GOAL, people from around the world will come together with governments, sports stars, companies, and non-profits to lobby for and achieve Education for All.

Celebrating a Congressional Champion of Education for All

For years, Congresswoman Nita Lowey has been one of the most ardent advocates and inspired leaders in the global campaign for universal education. In recent weeks, Congresswoman Lowey has been keeping the dialogue in Washington D.C. focused on this critical issue by calling into question cuts to basic education funding in President Obama’s proposed FY 2011 budget. To honor this champion of the world’s children, the Global Campaign for Education sent Congresswoman Lowey this letter of appreciation.
